5 Tiguan Updates For 2018



We’re eagerly anticipating our new Tiguans here at Volkswagen, as they have been bestowed many great updates that really change their game. Here are the top 5 VW Tiguan upgrades that we can’t wait to see for 2018;


1.       The 2018 Tiguan is now 10 inches longer. May not seem like much, but those 10 inches translate into 57% more interior cargo volume, and a whole new row of seating. The previous 5 seater Tiguan can now seat 8!

2.       Significant upgrades to the 2.0 L engine improve performance and efficiency. The now hardier engine is also now mated to a new eight-speed automatic gearbox.

3.       Another great interior improvement is in the visuals, as the Tiguan now offers a svelte Volkswagen Digital Cockpit with an available 12.3-inch gauge display.

4.       The Tiguan will now receive a new bumper-to-bumper warranty that will cover owners for 6 years or 72,000 miles. Additionally, the coverage will also be transferable should the original owner sell the vehicle before the warranty expires. The new warranty coverage includes all powertrain and drivetrain components such as the engine, transmission, and the available all-wheel drive system.

Karmann Ghia


Volkswagen was a catalyst of sorts for German production cars and remains deeply ingrained in Germany’s automobile history. Volkswagen was aptly named the ‘peoples car’, after being commissioned to produce Germany’s first economy car that was accessible to all people- the Beetle. Car ownership was rare in this era due to a limping economy and a market primarily dominated by sports cars, then the war ended and the standard of living was increased alongside the economy, which prompted Volkswagen executives to add a halo car to their lineup. They commissioned Wilhelm Karmann for the design, a coachbuilder, who in turn contracted the famous Italian firm Ghia.

The Karmann-Ghia initially cost $2,245, which was $900 more than the Beetle and quite expensive for the time. This was the result of craftsmanship on tier with high end manufacturers. In contrast to the Beetles machine-welded body with bolted-on fenders, the Karmann-Ghia’s body paneling was butt-welded, hand shaped, and smoothed with English pewter in a time consuming process. The cabin featured a sportier dashboard and was furbished with high quality seats that rendered the new halo visually incomparable to VW’s old economy car.



The Karmann-Ghia was introduced to America in the early 1950’s. The Beetle was still relatively new here, but the Karmann-Ghia offered a welcomed image refresh for Volkswagen. Sumptuous Italian styling, quality workmanship, and durable mechanisms were evolved from the ever reliable Beetle and gave the Karmann-Ghia significant value and appeal.

This special Volkswagen was easy to buy and service, unlike most foreign sports cars, because many areas of the country had a conveniently located VW dealer.  Many of these Karmann-Ghias have survived to this day, but mostly in warmer climates without salty, rust-inducing roads.


Karmann-Ghias have been steadily gaining notoriety as collectible classics. The average cost of one in good shape has nearly doubled in recent years, but good deals are still bound to be had. Now would be an excellent time to capitalize on the rise in popularity of this classic before the price becomes legendary.

2017 Volkswagen CC

Volkswagens consistent styling has created a timeless image of class and refinery. 2017 Volkswagen Beetle



The iconic Beetle stands against the winds of change, and retains its unique charms generation after generation. This year, the Beetles design is a tribute to the original- with retro interior styling and an overall refreshing simplicity. 2017 Volkswagen Jetta


The 2017 Jetta is Volkswagens versatile compact car that offers a spirited engine lineup with radical acceleration and excellent gas mileage. 2018 Atlas

Volkswagon first introduced the 2018 VW Atlas concept at the CrossBlue concept preview back in 2013. The Atlas is an entirely new 3rd row SUV- the largest and most U.S. oriented model that VW has released thus far.  After much anticipation, the 2018 Atlas has finally been released in the US. You can expect to start seeing the Atlas’ arrive at VW dealerships this spring.


The 2018 Atlas will be available with two engines; a 238-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is the standard offering, but you could opt for the upgraded 280-hp 3.6-liter VR6 for a little more power behind your punch. Each will pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. All four-cylinder models will feature front-wheel drive, while the VR6 will be available with VW’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. The Atlas’s 4MOTION system features a drive-mode selector that offers Snow, Sport, On-Road, and Off-Road settings for maximum control in all driving conditions.



Atlases will feature integration of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink. VW’s reconfigurable digital screen that replaces analog gauges, called Digital Cockpit is on the options list, as is a 12-speaker Fender audio system that VW claims is the most sophisticated Fender system yet to appear in one of its vehicles. Also offered will be a slew of driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, and lane-departure warning with steering assist. There’s also post-collision braking, which applies the brakes when a crash is detected, helping reduce the risk of a secondary collision.

The exterior and interior design of the Atlas are both very linear and forthright. The front fascia is wide and square, with a large windshield that’s thankfully unhindered by meddlesome side pillars that you’d often find on a wide body SUV. The standard LED headlights add a welcomed bit of refinement to the otherwise aptly rugged appearance. The spacious cabins overall design in just as candid and simple as the exterior, but that’s not a bad thing. The linear dash and minimal control buttons offer a composed, calm cabin environment that isn’t seen much elsewhere in an SUV. Each row offers a quiet, comfortable ride in exquisitely plush seats.




Volkswagon is taking strides in a refreshing direction by offering a brand new SUV with a lot to offer various lifestyles, and by expressly appealing to the American market. 2017 Atlas - Weekend Edition


       According to Business Insider’s Ben Zhang Volkswagen has a major problem on their hands. No, we aren’t referring to the widely known emissions scandal that rocked the automotive world last year. The trouble we are referring to is Volkswagens struggle to sell to American buyers. Zhang reported “Through November, the Volkswagen brand managed to move just 286,000 cars — down 10% over last year while representing a minuscule 1.8% share of the US auto market. All the while in Europe and Asia, VW is one of the most competitive brands in the market."

       Some believe the solution is SUV’s. Volkswagen presently has two SUV’s in their lineup – Tiguan and Touareg; but what many believe the automaker needs is a LARGE SUV. Volkswagen heard the cries and they responded by introducing a third SUV to their lineup.

2017 Volkswagen Atlas Weekend Edition


       Expected to arrive later this year, the atlas entered production at the company's Chattanooga plant in Tennessee. Zhang wrote "With three rows of seats and room for seven, the Atlas is expected to be a savior for VW's struggling US business". 2017 Volkswagen Passat

The Volkswagen Passat hasn’t been given a drastic redesign this year- rather; it’s been thoughtfully preened since its debut to evolve into an unparalleled fit for the family lifestyle. TDI Graveyards




                In the wake of Volkswagen’s Dieselgate emission scandal, VW stopped selling the TDI’s and has now started buying back TDI’s as well. There will be hundreds of thousands of VW’s bought back and fixed by the time the dust settles.

                While this is a massive fix, there is logistically a concern on what to do with all the vehicles. There are hundreds of thousands of are in limbo right now, they can’t be driven and they haven’t been fixed. The big question is where you store all these vehicles. Well there are three main places where VW is storing these TDIs. Hundreds of those cars now sit in the abandoned parking lot of the Pontiac Silverdome, former home of the Detroit Lions. On the west coast they are baking in the San Bernardino, California sun at a decommissioned Air Force base and are sitting in a port in Baltimore on the east coast.


                The waiting game right now is going on as VW waits to see if they can get the EPA and California Air Resources Board to approve fixes for the cheating cars, or if the company will be forced to send the vehicles to the salvage yard. There is no word of if more of these VW regional grave yards will pop up around the country.

Once a buyback transaction is complete, Volkswagen will remove the vehicle from the dealership and store it at a regional facility. These vehicles will be held until it is determined whether an approved emissions modification becomes available.

The New VW Tiguan

              

               In the wake of the VW emissions scandal and with the ever falling gasoline prices , Volkswagen released a stretched version of their popular Tiguan crossover at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

                Volkswagen’s new stretched out Tiguan is a direct response to consumers’ interest moving towards crossovers, sports-utility vehicles and pickup trucks amid the low gas prices. VW dealers are adding two vehicles to their lineup because of those demands, the Atlas being one of those and the other being the stretched out Tiguan. The new Tiguan will have third row seating, adding two more seats to the popular crossover.

                Nearly 11 inches longer and with 57% more cargo space, the Tiguan is much bigger than its predecessor, by auto industry standards. The vehicle will get optional safety systems that are spreading quickly throughout the industry, such as forward-collision warning, pedestrian monitoring, blind-spot detection and lane-departure warnings. The vehicle will get a 2-liter turbocharged direct-injection engine with 184 horsepower, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel-drive version of the 2018 model-year Tiguan will get third-row seats as standard, while it will be optional on all-wheel-drive vehicles.
