2017 Volkswagen Jetta

The 2017 Jetta is Volkswagens versatile compact car that offers a spirited engine lineup with radical acceleration and excellent gas mileage. Whether you lean towards prominent efficiency or exciting performance, the Jetta offers an engine to suit your tastes without any major compromise. Jetta S and SE models come with a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that delivers good acceleration and great efficiency, while the Jetta SEL uses a larger, 1.8-liter turbo-4 that has more punch yet still offers good fuel economy.

Considering Volkswagens origin as the catalyst economy car in Germany, the Jettas conservative and sensible overall design is quite apt. The classic Volkswagen design is straightforward and efficient, and the Jetta isn’t trying to convince anyone of anything. The impression of the Jetta is confidently left to be had from the actual experience, rather than any perceived aesthetic.

The Jetta may be compact, but the cabin provides much more space than similar compact vehicles and offers generous trunk space as well. Jetta seats five and comes standard with cloth upholstery. Heated leatherette seats and a power-adjustable driver’s seat are optional. For installing car seats, the Jetta’s standard LATCH system includes lower anchors on both outboard rear seats and tether anchors on all three rear seats.

Infotainment is provided by a 5-inch color touch-screen system that incorporates AM/FM/CD player with SD and USB ports, and Bluetooth phone connectivity. For $3,000 more, the SE model includes power sunroof, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, heated front seats, larger touch-screen display with phone app features, faux leather seating, push-button start and premium wheels.

If you’re looking for a safe, economical commuter and want more than a lethargic sedan, you should buy the Volkswagen Jetta. All of its engines are turbocharged, with outstanding fuel economy from the base four-cylinder and exhilarating acceleration from the top-line Jetta GLI. Though the Jetta is categorized as a compact car, you’ll get almost as much passenger and trunk space as a midsize car. Regardless of the evident value, the Jetta’s starting price is below the average cost of a compact car.
