The 2016 Volkswagen Passat has earned the coveted Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.  Top Safety Pick+ is the IIHS's highest rating.

Volkswagen is Offering Huge Loyalty Bonuses

New VW Golf Cabrio Coming to US

 

 

 

The Golf Cabrio has been missing from the US market since the early 2000's, but it appears poised for a comeback in 2016. according to an article in Car and Driver.  The Cabrio will replace the EOS in the VW lineup.

 

Apparently, Volkswagen chose to add a second convertible (the Beetle being the other), and it came down to a choice between the Golf or a 2-door Passat.

Volkswagen Is Adding Driver Assist Features for 2016

If you wanted driver assistance features like blind spot monitoring and parking assistance, up until now you would have needed to pony up for a luxury brand, like Porsche or Audi.  For 2016, however, Volkswagen is adding these features to their Golf, Jetta, and Passat lines.

Different models offer different features, some standard, some optional, but this is the first time they've been available at all on many of the cars.  Below is a video of the convenience of VW's Park Assist feature.

Could a New VW Micro-Bus Be on the Horizon?

 

Although it has been rumored for a few years, now, a Volkswagen Microbus, or Bulli, could be unveiled as early as next year.  In theory, it would be available in with gas, diesel, and electric motors.

 

The iconic "VW Bus" of the 1960's and 70's conjures up some great flashbacks among many baby boomers of that generation.  It would be great to see a new version build the same sort of cult following.  

Cars.com Names VW Passat TDI their "Eco-Friendly Car of the Year"

The editors praise the Passat TDI as "the untimate road trip car" with "impressive highway mileage and long range". At 30 mpg city and 42 on the highway, the diesel-powered version of the highly rated Passat can take you a long ways on a 18.2 gallon tank of gas.

The Volkswagen Tiguan vs Jeep Compass Limited

If you are looking for a smaller SUV and have considered the Jeep Compass Limited, you should probably take a look at the Volkswagen Tiguan. 

Comparably priced (the Tiguan is actually over $600 less, based on MSRP), the Tiguan provides quite a bit more muscle for the money.  The Tiguan's 2.0 liter inline 4-cylinder engine produces 200 horsepower vs. the 172 horsepower Compass.  The Tiguan also outpaces in terms of torque (207 ft-lbs vs 165).

2015 VW Beetle vs Fiat 500

If you just think of the Volkswagen Beetle as a cute little bug, there may be more to it that you know.  In a comparison against the Fiat 500, the Beetle is the clear performance winner.  Take a look at the differences in what their inline 4-cylinder engines produce:
